Filter by selection

Network Monitor presents multiple views of connection data and selections can be made in each of them: in the connection list, in the Traffic Diagram and in the Map View. So, how do selections in each view narrow down the display in other views? The behavior is designed to feel “intuitive”. The fundamental principles are:

The Connection Inspector, the Traffic Diagram and connection lines in the Map View always represent the current selection in the connection list or, if there is no selection, all connections in the list.
Only connection lines, not location marks in the Map View are affected by the connection list selection.

The underlying information the algorithm uses is the list of all connections, filtered by search field and filter menu.
Selections in the Traffic Diagram narrow down connections in the connection list and the Map View: Only connections with non-zero traffic amounts in the selected time range are shown. If nothing is selected, all connections are shown.
The Map View contains location marks, which are drawn as circles and connection lines. It shows location marks for all connections passing the Traffic Diagram selection test as outlined above, but connection lines are only drawn for connections selected in the connection list. If nothing is selected, connection lines are drawn to all locations.
Selections in the Map View also narrow down connections in the connection list: Only connections to selected locations are shown. If nothing is selected, all connections are shown.
The Traffic Diagram and the Connection Inspector show data only for connections selected in the connection list. If there is no selection, data for all connections in the connection list is shown.
